66. 2001: A Space Odyssey

Thursday 4th December 2014 –  20:15  – Screen 2 Row E Seat 15 – West India Quay

2001_A_Space_Odyssey-1-

After watching Interstellar I have been wanting to see 2001. I kept hearing that 2001 was a huge influence on Interstellar . I thought it would make a great Double Bill.    As soon as I found out it was on I booked it.

This however made it difficult when “Blade Runner” was out soon after.  I can only book two tickets at one time. So I had to wait till it came closer to the time to book the other ticket since I wanted to watch others in between.  I was not sure about the limit at first I tried to contact CIneworld but I got no reply. If I had some feedback for Cineworld I would add these find of screens as an “even” like Live showing  or other types that are except from the 2 booking rule.

I ended up arriving pretty early. I was not sure  how many adverts there would be or if it would just start at the advertised time. Man I wish I had come later.  There was not music playing and I felt quite awkward.

The numbers for the seats are on the arm rest so you have two numbers on each seat  I was confused and sat one seat further then I should.  I was so unsure I doubled check after a while and moved. However this was after some guys sat next to me . They had to move later when other people arrived . Sorry.

When the notice for trailer saying that ” the trailers following would have the same certificate as the movie”  no trailer came after. 2001 is a U and I guess there are no more U movies coming out.

The music was loud which was amazing.  I have seen most of 2001 before but never all the way through. I had seen the start , many of the major section, even an analysis of the movie but never the whole thing.

I won’t lie it was a difficult keeping my eyes open at all the  talking scenes . MY eyeball were drying out. Fortunately a surprise (to me) Interval  came on so I rushed to the toilet and put some eyedrops in. This was a great opportunity to wake up and  stand up,  once again the seats gave me bum ache.

It was a great experience I am glad I got to see  it on the big screen .  I loved the scale and when there was music it was amazing.   What I found interesting was the movie liked to show how this “future world ” worked.  I know this has other messages about the state of mans revolutions “right now” in space  but it was like when movies  want o show how the future might be and impress us with its advances.

64. The Imitation Game

Thursday 27th November 2014 15:30 – Screen 5  Row H Seat 17 – West India Quay

So the lights were on even when the movie started.  Opps

When the lights were on during the trailer I hopped that it would be turned off before the start of the film.  This is the second time in a row where the lights did not do what they were supposed to.  I know that it is pitch black and you can’t find your seats and I know I wished there was a bit more light but that was ridiculous.

Movie

I liked it.

Maybe I watch too many Numberphile Videos but the one thing that could have made The Imitation Game better for me was if there was more maths.

I was afraid I would not love Cumberbatch as  much but I really like him here.  I used to avoid watching Keira Knightley but I really liked her in this, I also love Matthew Goode so it was great to see him in this too.

The thing with “true Stories”  it always begs the question “how much of this was accurate?” .  I knew the general stuff like letting targets be destroyed to keep a secret but I was not sure how much of the Joan /Alan stuff was real.  I hope it was , it would be so sweet if it was.

63. Get on up

Friday 21st November at 17:00  West India Quay , Screen 7 Seat:  E10

get on up

The main reason why  I wanted to see this was because I heard the performance was great.  I agree.

When booking the seat I decided to seat closer to the screen. I tend to avoid that but decided to do it this time, I quite like it.  Seats uncomfortable  once again though . I think someone was sitting in the wrong seat but the person moved to my row.

Part way through the movie the lights turned on. This was rather distracting. I did not go out to tell anyone because I did not want to miss the movie.   I think someone went out to tell some one.

The movie had high energy great acting and musical  performances . I don’t know much about James so I think I may have missed some references. I didn’t know that James would be breaking the forth wall. It was great. I am not the first person to compare this to “Jersey Boys”   so I won’t mention that.  I like that it what slightly poetic.

62. Hunger Games: Mockingjay

Thursday 20th November 2014 – 15:10 – Screen 7  Row k Seat 16  – The o2

mokingjay

The song is stuck not only in my head but the people at work. I came in and my colleague was humming it  (or was it whistling )

I went with my mum to see it. I came right after work.

Great war movie.   Some stirring images. Some  really brutal.     Jennifer Lawrence was amazing however after seeing her in a “adult” role it was strange to see her as a teenager again.

Really enjoyed it.

59. Mr TURNER

Date: Thursday 6th November at 16:20

Cinema: London – West India Quay, Hertsmere Road, West India Quay, London, E14 4AL

Seat(s): Standard Seating N16

turner big-2026

Came in and asked a woman to move a bag from my seat as it turns out the whole row to my left was empty but  I didn’t move seats. I was a tad  uncomfortable all the way through because of that.  I had tried to pick a seat away from people but  they sat next to me.

I was quite sleepy in the first part. I tired hard not to nod off.  I did do better than the man  a few row back who snored through part of the film.  It was a struggle to keep awake.  I thought it would be compelling because I heard whispers that Spall’s performance was Oscar worthy.

If this wasn’t and Art film then I don’t what is.   I know only tiny amount of Turner’s work so I don’t think I picked up all the “ah Chubby” moments.   I had difficulty following the jumps in time. Not sure I followed everything.   I knew of his eyesight but I am nor sure If I would have know that my watching the film.  As a biopic I am nor sure if I really understood the man. I just know paint was in his blood and he could not stop.

As I have come to expect now it is hard to get comfy in my seat.  They are so un-comfy to sit in now .  Not sure if it has become old or they replaced them with crap chairs so you go pay for Star seating.

58. Horns

Saturday 1st November at 15:30 –  Screen 1 – Seat Row – G6, G7 – The O2

horns

I really enjoyed this.  I love the concept.  I saw this with mum but and she just found it weird.  I really like changes in tone.

What was quite interesting was that the first part of the movie reminded me off “Gone Girl” . The media attention on the victims partner and the group vigil.

I really loved the concept of Horns. I loved the idea so when people are near him the feel free to express their hidden secrets and desires.   Also kind of glad we had some male nudity as well instead of just female.

57. Nightcrawler

When I collected my ticket from the ATM I went to the escalator it seemed they were short of staff (or someone had to cover) because I had to show my tickets there and when I reached the screen there was no one there to look at my ticket,

Before the film ended the lights turned on.

This was such a great film.  There has been a great buzz about this film for a while and people have been raving about Jake.   People say that you could see the actor any more and he has such a transformation but I know the name Jake Gyllenhaal but I don’t really know him. I have seen him in Donnie Darko but Didn’t really remember him . So all I really saw was this obsessive  guy.  I had been seeing the trailer in front of a few films and really it was the trailer that really sold me to go see it.

I like how the Rene  Russo character was a reflection of  Louis (Jake) . On my favorite thing to see is when people have the fixed/fake smile or people that are really chipper, “The Brady Bunch Movie” or Glinda in “Wicked” when she is putting it on for the crowd or “Chicago” in “They Both reached for the gun”. Well this movie had a lot of that.

This film was such fun. I encouraged  many people to go see it.
